January 31 was a memorable day in the maternity unit at Cayuga Medical Center, as two newborns arrived whose sizes couldn’t have been more different.
Shawn Jr., born to parents Terrica and Shawn, made Cayuga Medical Center history when he arrived weighing an impressive 13 pounds, the largest baby ever born at the hospital. While his family anticipated a big baby, his size still came as a surprise.
“We knew he’d be bigger, but we didn’t expect this,” Terrica said. “He’s already wearing 3 to 6 month diapers and clothes. It feels like I skipped straight to having a three-month-old.” Shawn Jr. joins two brothers and a sister.
Adding to the day’s special significance was the birth of Margot, a 4-pound newborn born to parents Chloe and Victor. Sharing a birthday with a record-setting baby made the moment even sweeter.
“It was really charming and such a good reminder that babies come in all shapes and sizes,” Chloe said. “I’m feeling great and so thankful for the care we received from the doctors, nurses, and midwives.”
“These two births are a wonderful reminder that every baby and every birth story is unique,” said Robyn Torgalski, System Director of Maternal Child Health at Centralus Health. “Whether a newborn weighs four pounds or thirteen, our teams are prepared to provide the highest level of care to both baby and family. We’re proud of the exceptional maternity care delivered at Cayuga Health, one of our valued affiliates, and honored to support families through moments like these.”
Together, the two births reflect the wide range of experiences supported by Cayuga Medical Center’s maternity team, underscoring its commitment to personalized, high-quality care for every family it serves.
what our patients are saying
“The staff and accommodations at Cayuga Birthplace are amazing!!! This is what it I imagine it would feel like to be a celebrity getting VIP treatment. I wish I could stay longer – even the food options are 5 Star! The amenities are great. Everything is clean and designed beautifully. Not a single complaint, only praises!”
“I have to say the last couple visits that I’ve had here have been wonderful. About a month ago I had an EGD and the staff were amazing! Explained everything in detail and made me feel at ease. I was very nervous and the nurse I had was very comforting. Tonight we had to take my son to the emergency room and they were awesome with him! We got right in. “
“I have had many occasions visiting CMC for myself and family. We have never had a bad experience there at all. Last October I had surgery and the nurses were amazing especially my night nurse. Thank you to all CMC staff for doing what you do every day with a smile.”
“I have been a Hemo dialysis patient for almost Five years. Prior to dialysis and during dialysis I have had several trips to the ER, due to other health issues & was admitted to CMC more than a few times. Each and every time I’ve been there, whether in patient or out, I have been treated with respect, professionalism, and efficiency. I give this hospital 2 thumbs up!! Thank you CMC for taking care of me all these years!!”
