About

There is No Reason to Live with a Wound That Won’t Heal

Don’t just cover up your wound, heal your wound. Chronic wounds affect 6.5 million people in the United States. In our community, there are more than 3,900 people living with a chronic non-healing wound. There are many reasons why a wound won’t heal. People living with diabetes, circulatory problems, and immobility are at greater risk for developing wounds that won’t heal with traditional treatment. Whatever it takes for healing to occur, we are equipped to make that happen.

A Multidisciplinary Approach

The Cayuga Center for Wound Healing is staffed with a unique team of specialists all dedicated to healing chronic wounds. We are fortunate to have a unique team of providers and nurses who have all received specialized training in the most advanced treatments available in wound care. We are able heal wounds and prevent re-occurrence by partnering with specialists within the Cayuga Health System to heal infection, improve blood flow, resolve edema, and improve nutrition, all while educating our patients on the same.

How can I Start Healing?

  • Call (607) 274-4203 to make an appointment.
  • Our team of providers and nurses will talk to you about your health and medical history and evaluate your wound completely.
  • You may need to get tests to evaluate blood flow and determine if there is any infection present.
  • We will provide you with a special treatment plan unique to your health status and wound.
  • As part of your treatment plan, we ask that you attend regular visits to the wound center. Evidence shows that weekly visits are shown to heal wounds as quickly as possible.

What to bring on your first visit:

  • Your insurance card(s) and photo ID
  • A list of current medications and allergies
  • Medical records, X-rays, and lab tests, if you have them

Our caring team of providers will get you back on your feet again. Most health insurance companies will pay for the care you receive in our center. We are experts at caring for non-healing wounds; call us to schedule an appointment today.

The treatment of wounds is a complex task and each person’s case is unique because patients heal at different rates and time. Our Wound Care staff understands this and we are prepared to treat and guide our patients through the process successfully. Some of the different types of wounds we help with include the following:

  • Any wound failing to improve with multiple treatments or therapies
  • Diabetic foot ulcers
  • Venous and arterial ulcers
  • Lower leg ulcers
  • Pressure ulcers
  • Bone infection (osteomyelitis)
  • Gangrene
  • Skin tears or lacerations
  • Late effects of radiation therapy (soft tissue radionecrosis and osteoradionecrosis)
  • Post-operative infections
  • Slow or non-healing surgical wounds
  • Compromised skin flaps or grafts
  • Certain burns

Some people are at greater risk of developing a non-healing wound. Individuals with the following may be at increased risk:

  • Poor nutrition
  • Diabetes
  • Circulation (blood flow) problems
  • Poor mobility
  • Infection
  • Overweight or Obese
  • Smoke cigarettes

If you have any of these conditions, we can help. We partner with the Cayuga Center Healthy Living to assist you with managing these risk factors, including diabetes education, smoking cessation, weight reduction and nutrition counseling.
