Starting today, Cayuga Health is implementing Patient Directed Visitation at Schuyler Hospital and Cayuga Medical Center.
Patient Directed Visitation allows the patient to give feedback on who they would like to visit them in the hospital and when, according to personal preferences and in consideration of their healthcare needs.
The program is consistent with Cayuga Health’s person centered care initiatives.
“We are pleased to be starting Patient Directed Visitation to support the healing process of our patients,” said Naph’tali Edge, Chief Nursing Officer, Cayuga Health. “This program has been shown to help patients balance their wish for the support of family and friends with their need for rest and privacy.”
Patient Directed Visitation aims to create an environment that provides comfort, promotes healing, and protects the privacy of all patients in the hospital.
The benefits of Patient Directed Visitation include: reduces patient anxiety, provides comfort, promotes a smooth transition of care, fosters trust and collaboration between hospital caregivers and family caregivers, and facilitates more effective communication between patients, loved ones, and staff.
