Cayuga Medical Center, part of Cayuga Health, a Centralus Health affiliate, has reached a remarkable milestone in patient safety: more than 1,200 consecutive days without a single Central Line-Associated Bloodstream Infection (CLABSI). This achievement places CMC among the top-performing hospitals in the country, earning it a spot on Becker’s Hospital Review’s prestigious list of hospitals with the lowest CLABSI rates nationwide.

A CLABSI is a serious, yet preventable, infection that can occur when bacteria enters the bloodstream through a central line, a type of IV used to deliver medications or fluids. Preventing these infections is critical to ensuring safer care, reducing complications, and shortening hospital stays for patients.

“This accomplishment is more than just a number,” said Andreia de Lima, MD, MBA, Chief Medical Officer of Cayuga Health. “It’s a testament to the relentless dedication, precision, and teamwork of our clinical staff. Every day, our teams demonstrate what it means to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care. Their commitment is not only saving lives but also setting a new standard for excellence in infection prevention.”

The recognition from Becker’s Hospital Review underscores CMC’s ongoing commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement. It also reflects the hospital’s culture of accountability and collaboration, where every team member plays a vital role in protecting patient health.

Congratulations to all the staff on this outstanding achievement. Centralus Health remains focused on advancing patient safety and delivering exceptional care to the communities it serves.

what our patients are saying

“I have been a Hemo dialysis patient for almost Five years. Prior to dialysis and during dialysis I have had several trips to the ER, due to other health issues & was admitted to CMC more than a few times. Each and every time I’ve been there, whether in patient or out, I have been treated with respect, professionalism, and efficiency. I give this hospital 2 thumbs up!! Thank you CMC for taking care of me all these years!!”

“I have to say the last couple visits that I’ve had here have been wonderful. About a month ago I had an EGD and the staff were amazing! Explained everything in detail and made me feel at ease. I was very nervous and the nurse I had was very comforting. Tonight we had to take my son to the emergency room and they were awesome with him! We got right in. “

“I have had many occasions visiting CMC for myself and family. We have never had a bad experience there at all. Last October I had surgery and the nurses were amazing especially my night nurse. Thank you to all CMC staff for doing what you do every day with a smile.”

“The staff and accommodations at Cayuga Birthplace are amazing!!! This is what it I imagine it would feel like to be a celebrity getting VIP treatment.
