Cayuga Medical Center (CMC) was recently recognized as a Four-Star hospital by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). In addition, CMC received four stars for patient experience. Cayuga Medical Center is the only healthcare facility in the region to receive four stars or better for both the overall and patient experience scores.

The overall rating summarizes a variety of measures on common conditions that hospitals treat, like heart attacks or pneumonia. CMS considers whether or not a health care provider gives recommended treatment based on standards of care and evaluates the outcomes of all treatments provided.

The Patient Survey Rating measures patients’ perception of their hospital care. Recently discharged patients are asked about important topics like how well nurses and doctors communicated, how responsive hospital staff were to their needs, and the cleanliness and quietness of the hospital’s environment.

“Patients who choose Cayuga Medical Center for care can be assured that they will receive effective care in a healing environment. These CMS scores are evidence that our team is consistently focused on patient-centered care,” stated Dr. Andreia de Lima, Vice President of Medical Affairs, Cayuga Medical Center at Ithaca.

“This four-star recognition is outstanding. The patient care teams at Cayuga Medical Center pride themselves in providing the very best and highest quality care for each of our patients, and it is rewarding to see that recognition on this level,” said Dr. Martin Stallone, President and CEO, Cayuga Health. “This new four-star patient satisfaction rating exemplifies their continued determination for excellence every day. We are grateful to have such a talented and caring staff.”

The CMS Five-Star Quality Rating was created to help consumers, their families, and caregivers so they can easily identify areas about which they may want to ask questions before undergoing care. The 1–5-star rating helps to identify the best certified Medicare Acute Care Hospitals, Critical Access Hospitals (CAH) in each community as well as nursing home facilities.

Comparisons to other facilities can be found on the Medicare.gov website using this link https://www.medicare.gov/care-compare/. what our patients are saying

“I have been a Hemo dialysis patient for almost Five years. Prior to dialysis and during dialysis I have had several trips to the ER, due to other health issues & was admitted to CMC more than a few times. Each and every time I’ve been there, whether in patient or out, I have been treated with respect, professionalism, and efficiency. I give this hospital 2 thumbs up!! Thank you CMC for taking care of me all these years!!”

“I have had many occasions visiting CMC for myself and family. We have never had a bad experience there at all. Last October I had surgery and the nurses were amazing especially my night nurse. Thank you to all CMC staff for doing what you do every day with a smile.”

“The staff and accommodations at Cayuga Birthplace are amazing!!! This is what it I imagine it would feel like to be a celebrity getting VIP treatment. I wish I could stay longer – even the food options are 5 Star! The amenities are great. Everything is clean and designed beautifully. Not a single complaint, only praises!”

“I have to say the last couple visits that I’ve had here have been wonderful. About a month ago I had an EGD and the staff were amazing! Explained everything in detail and made me feel at ease. I was very nervous and the nurse I had was very comforting. Tonight we had to take my son to the emergency room and they were awesome with him! We got right in. “
