To all Seneca View Residents and Families:

Please be advised that this week’s first testing has returned five positive COVID-19 results among our nursing home resident population. Families of the affected residents have already been contacted by our nursing team. These residents reside on one nursing unit in close proximity to each other and do not appear to be associated with the positive staff person we informed you of on Friday.  As a result, we have now enacted our strictest precautions facility-wide to contain any further spreading.

The majority of these positive residents have been vaccinated and our facility has access to additional treatment options including the monoclonal antibodies, antivirals, and hospitalization for any serious cases. We also continue to promote vaccination among our facility staff and residents. Recently, staff vaccination has been made mandatory by New York State, the Federal Government, and our own Cayuga Health System.  These additional steps should help reduce future occurrences of COVID-19 and reduce the impact of individual cases when they may occur.

The facility has been advised by the Department of Health to continue the postponement of resident visitation during house-wide testing to determine the extent of this outbreak. Twice weekly testing of all staff and residents will continue until we are clear of any positive cases for 14 days. Reopening of the various nursing units will be addressed on an individual basis as we move forward COVID-19 free.

Small group resident activities and communal dining remain discontinued at this time.  Visits to residents on the end of life visitation program will not be interrupted although additional infection prevention measures may be required of visitors. Please continue to contact your respective nursing units for the scheduling of those visits.

We will be providing more information as it becomes available.

Please continue to monitor our SCHUYLERHOSPITAL.ORG website, and please feel free to contact us if you have any questions.  You can also reach our State Ombudsman, Trish Chevallard, at {607)274-5492, if you need.

Warmest Regards,
