Imaging Services

The best defense against some of today’s most deadly diseases lies in early detection. Cayuga Health has the very latest in imaging tools needed to diagnose medical conditions early so they have a higher likelihood of being treated successfully.

The Most Advanced 3D Mammography

What should I expect during your exam?

The process of our 3D Mammography exam is the same as your conventional 2D exam.

The technologist will position you, compress your breast, and take images from different angles. There’s no additional compression required with the  3D Mammography exam, and it only takes a few extra seconds for an exam, proven to be more accurate.1-6

When will I receive the results?

The technologist will view the images of your breasts at the computer workstation to ensure quality images have been captured for review.

After receiving your mammogram, our team of radiologists will review the images and inform you of your results via mail within 3 to 5 business days. If further screening is required, our office will contact you to schedule a follow-up appointment.

What should I know about breast density?

Breast consists of two types of tissue that appear differently on a mammogram, including fatty and dense tissue. Dense breast tissue appears whiter on the mammogram image, making it more difficult for radiologist to see cancer (if present) and increasing the need for follow-up imaging. Cancer is easier to see in fatty breasts.

Why does breast density matter?

Having dense breasts is very common, but it does increase your risk for developing breast cancer. Knowing your density and discussing it with your doctor is important to ensure you are receiving the most effective screening.

Better, earlier breast cancer detection than 2D mammography alone

Greater peace of mind – Reduces unnecessary callbacks by up to 40%

More accurate – Finds 20-65% more invasive breast cancers compared to 2D alone, an average increase of 41%.

Individual results may vary. The study found an average 41% (95% CI: 20-65%) increase and that 1.2 (95% CI: 0.8-1.6) additional invasive breast cancers per 1000 screening exams were found in women receiving combined 2D FFDM and 3D™ mammograms acquired with the Hologic 3D Mammography™ System versus women receiving 2D FFDM mammograms only. 3. Zuckerman SP, Conant EF, Keller BM, et al.
